Multiple people were killed, including a gunman, during an “active shooter” situation at a train yard close to San Jose’s airport Wednesday morning, officials said.
The Santa Clara County Sheriff’s Office tweeted just after 7 a.m. local time deputies were “on scene for an active shooter investigation” near West Younger Avenue where the VTA Light Rail Facility is located.
Mercury News reported “multiple people” were dead, including the shooter but officials are yet to release details on injuries.
A mother of a VTA employee told KTVU her son called to tell her he was safe in an auditorium at the sheriff’s office, which is on the same block, and that the shooting occurred during a union meeting.
Cops with the San Jose Police Department said reports of a shooting near the area of Younger Ave and San Pedro Street, about 50 miles south of San Francisco, were reported at 6:34 a.m. local time.
“This is still an active scene and we ask that everyone stay out of the area while we conduct our investigation,” the San Jose Police Department tweeted.
Further details were not immediately available.
